PRESIDENT Goodluck Jonathan has stated reason for the sack of the former Inspector-General of Police

PRESIDENT Goodluck Jonathan has stated reason for the sack of the former Inspector-General of Police, Suleiman Abba, stating that a lot of indiscipline was noticed among the rank and file of the Force.
The chairman of the Police Service Commission, Mr Mike Okiro, when asked by State House correspondents after the Council of State meeting in Abuja, on Tuesday, said “the president, in very brief way, he said during the period of the former IGP, a lot of indiscipline was noticed among the rank and file of the Police and, as such, he felt that a new IGP should come and try his luck.”
When pressed further to explain, Okiro said “that is what he (President Jonathan) said, though I cannot give details of that.”
He had earlier told the reporters that “I may not attempt to answer the question because I'm not part of the Presidency that removed him, so I cannot give adequate answer. “
He said the president tried to explain to members of the council, based on the question raised by one of the governors that Nigerians may want to know why the former police boss was removed.
Meanwhile, the council has confirmed Mr Solomon Arase, as the substantive IGP.
The confirmation came during a meeting of the council, which was presided over by President Goodluck Jonathan, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The new IGP confirmed the news to State House correspondents at the end of the meeting, saying “I have just been confirmed.”
He was appointed acting IGP on April 21, 2015, following the removal of Abba from office.
He expressed his determination to enforce the dismantling of roadblocks in the country, while he assured on the welfare of officers and men of the Force.
