Court remands mother, 23, for stabbing son to death

Sango-Ota (Ogun) – An Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun on Friday remanded a 23-year-old mother, Funmilayo Adeyanju, in prison custody, over alleged murder.

Adeyanju was arraigned for allegedly killing her son, Emmanuel Jumpy, aged 3, by stabbing him to death with a knife.
The Magistrate, Mr Folarin Iroko, said the accused should be remanded in prison, pending advice from the state Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) on the murder charge.
The accused, who resides at No. 27, Odeyemi St., Iloye, in Ota, is facing a one-count charge of murder.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Sgt. Lydia Omatahunde, had told the court that the accused committed the offence on May 27 at about 8.00 a.m., at her residence.
She said that the accused unlawful killed one Emmanuel Jumpy by stabbing him to death with a knife.
Omatahunde said that the accused was arrested with the assistance of the residents, who gave information to the police.
The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Sections 316 and 319 (1) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun, 2006.
The case was adjourned to Aug. 6, for mention. (NAN)
