Masari freezes all Govt accounts in Katsina

TENSION is now mounting in Katsina, the Katsina State capital as Governor Aminu Bello Masari yesterday directed the immediate closure of all government acounts in the state.
The governor’s directive is also to affect the accounts of the elected councils chairmen in all the 34 local government areas of the state.
Saturday vanguard learned from impeccable sources yesterday that the governor’s decision to wild the big stick followed an alleged report of massive looting of public funds particularly at the council levels by some elected officials perceived to be loyal to the erstwhile governor, Ibrahim Shehu Shema.

Results of the recently concluded council polls in the state had indicated that PDP won in all the entire councils areas when Shema held sway as governor, a development political pundits affirmed did not go down well with the APC administration which is now in control in the state.
But one of the aggrieved council chairman who would not want his name in print, said the governor’ s action freezing the accounts was done in bad faith.
“we were all elected by the people and duly sworn into office. So, I cannot understand the rationale he is using in freeze our accounts. Just as he is in charge of the state, so are we at the local levels.
“He should reverse the directives immediately because we are elected council officials”
“Let him restrict the order to agencies, ministries and parastatals headed by political appointees and leave us alone” he said.
